Thursday, September 06, 2012

In an already crowded mobile world, Samsung has proven itself to be been one of the most efficient Android smartphone manufacturers, with a very diverse offering, from high-end devices to the low-end affordable smartphones and feature phones with the release of the Samsung Galaxy Pocket Duos this August.
It is in fact a dual-SIM version of the Samsung Galaxy Pocket, a 2.8 inch-ed android device. This device is almost the same as the original version with the same 2.8 inch QVGA display, 2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi connectivity.

It gets it power from a 832 Mhz single-core processor. It has an internal memory of 3GB and can also be expanded via micro SD cards upto 32GB.The device is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box, with apparently no update plans for the future.

The dimensions of the phone are measured to be 103.9 x 57.9 x 13 mm with a weight of 103 g. The display is seen to consist of a capacitive touchscreen with a size of 2.8 inches and a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.

Other sensors like the Accelerometer and the Compass are also present.

As mentioned above, it is a Dual- SIM device with dual stand-by. The 2G network can be accessed through both the sims, say SIM 1 and SIM 2. But, the 3G network can be accessed only through the first SIM, say, SIM 1.

The standard battery life is upto 410 h (2G) and upto 370 h (3G) and the talktime battery life is upto 15 h 20 min (2G) and upto 6 h (3G).

All these features are what allow the Samsung Galaxy Pocket Duos to be extremely cheap. It is expected that this phone will become popular in developing markets where two SIMs translate into big money savings and prices matter more than specs.
