Original Galaxy Tab Getting Android 2.3 Update

Friday, July 01, 2011

Often time’s early adopters of new technologies or platforms are left out in the cold. Every major carrier released the Samsung Galaxy Tab last year and it was the first tablet device running Android. As a result of being the first to market it was running the phone OS Android 2.2 Froyo.
Sprint today let it slip that early adopters of their CDMA Galaxy Tab will be receiving an OTA update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It still won’t be running Honeycomb, the tablet specific OS but many performance enhancements and general tweaks that come along in Gingerbread will be welcomed additions for Galaxy Tab owners. This is especially surprising since Samsung had seemed to forget about the device’s existence having already released the follow up Galaxy Tab 10.1. Sprint customer service had also told almost everyone who asked that the tablet would not be receiving any further updates so this pleasant surprise really has seem to come out of the clear blue sky. Sprint Galaxy Tab owners can expect to be pushed the update starting July 5th and starting that day can also manually update form the settings menu.
