Tuesday, February 01, 2011

Graphical representation of statistical data is for the sole purpose of easier interpretation.  Facts and figures as such do not catch our attention unless they are presented in an interesting way. Graphical representation of data is one of the most commonly used modes of presentation for the statistics in the different fields of life.

The different types of graphs are
  • Bar graphs
  • Pie charts
  • Frequency polygon
  • Histogram

Usage of graphical representation
In cricket matches, we often see bar charts, pie charts, frequency polygon of players’ score. These are used to compare scores of the two teams or two players. These graphics are also used to tell the variation of scores in different overs.

Graphical representation is widely used by webmasters. They track all the visitors of their website. They use bar or pie charts to determine when the rate of visitors increased and when it decreased.

The variation of terrorism in Pakistan is usually seen in the form of figures I.e. pie charts or bar charts. We see from those diagrams that when and in which year terrorism increased and to what extent. In this way we can easily compare variation in terrorism in several years.

Marketers often use statistical graphics to present their presentations. From the figures, they show how their product is better from others by comparing the usage by people of the products in the specific period of time. Thus it saves their time much and also attracts buyers to buy their product.

We can apply graphical representation of data in any mode of our life where we want to compare two or more than two things. It becomes easier to understand for us and others using graphical representation.
